Mansion Only

The Stonehenge Mansion was built in 1914 for Samuel Hoyt Venable, a bachelor, and his sister, Elizabeth Venable Mason, her husband, Frank Tucker Mason, and their children. The architect for the mansion was Edward Bennett Dougherty. Another of Mr. Venable’s Sisters, Mrs. Leilla Venable Ellis was responsible for the murals and other art work throughout the house. The mansion was built in the Domestic Gothic Style of the Tudor period from Stone Mountain granite.
Sam Venable and his brother William Venable owned and operated the Southern Granite Company which in turn owned Stone Mountain, Arabia Mountain, and Pine Mountain. Naturally, they chose granite as the primary building material for their home.
St. John’s Lutheran Church bought the mansion in 1959 for some sixty thousand dollars and spent another fifty thousand dollars renovating it for its new use as a church. The sanctuary was added in 1969. Designed by architects Barker and Cunningham, they used the same Stone Mountain granite as the original structure.

IDK, I live in Buckhead, great neighborhood.
Roswell, Marietta and Smyrna are all outside the perimeter.
Briarcliff, Chamblee, No. Duid Hills and Decatur are all inside with pocket of reallt nice homes. The problem with some of these intown areas is you can go from $ 1million homes to run down apartments in two blocks.
If you want something close to your husbands work in Dunwoody look in the area north of Peachtree Street around the north Buckhead area, Brookhaven, Nancy Creek, along Windsor Parkway, Johnson Ferry, Ashford-Dunwoody, over to north Roswell Rd.
The Buckhead area between 400 and I-75 is very exclusive. The best homes in Atlanta are in that area. Very high priced but extremely nice. Along Peachtree and Northside Drive.
Where is this located? It’s beautiful, and I really enjoy your depiction of it.
a very good one

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/greg_foster] I’m glad you like it. I’m a bit partial to this building because I’m also a member of this church. Stop by sometime – worship is at 10:30. 🙂
The description actually came from the church’s own website: stjohnsatlanta.org

Re: January 2011 Daily Crit.
Good time of day, it’s provides wonderful light. Perhaps it’s thrown off your tint a little bit, it’s a little green (sky should be blue, not aqua), so shift the tint towards the magenta end. The other thing is I feel the tallest chimney there is slightly too close to the edge of the frame, not a major problem, but it would be nice to have some breathing space.
