Work From Home Jobs In Nc – Some questions about living in Charlotte NC?

Work From Home Jobs In Nc
Question by K: Some questions about living in Charlotte NC?
Hi, I’m Australian, and without going into too many details, I’ve applied for a job based in Charlotte NC. I’m really hoping I get it, as it’s totally my dream job and something I could never get the opportunity to do here.
I know all the immigration troubles and everything, that’s not my question.
I just have some questions about Charlotte, just in case. I like to be organised and know stuff in advance.
1. Is rent by the week or by the month? Here it is paid by the week, but I was on a site called apartments.com and they were all showing very high numbers for 1 bedroom apartments to rent, I didn’t think I was looking at executive apartments, it confused me. Like this one: http://www.apartments.com/rent/Charlotte-NC/Ivy-Hollow/312470.1?prvpg=7
2. What’s the average price of a 1 bedroom apartment in Charlotte? I wouldn’t want anything fancy.
3. What are the best neighborhoods to live in if you don’t want to go crazy expensive, but don’t want to end up in bad neighborhoods? I would be a single young woman living on my own.
4. Where are the ice rinks relative to everything? đ (I am a figure skater and love it and would definitely want to continue in a place where the sport is considered a sport!)
5. What would be a cheap but decent hotel near the NASCAR Hall of Fame? (If you know, you can answer part b: is the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the NASCAR Media headquarters in the same building? Or are they different?)
6. What kind of stores are there for getting furniture and stuff?
7. What’s the public transport like in Charlotte? Peak hours? Is it neccessary to have a car? Can you run LPG over in the USA or is it petrol (gasoline) only?
Sorry for all the questions. I just love knowing stuff about what I might be getting into. I might not even get the job, but I would like to be prepared just in case! đ Thankyou very much!

Charlotte is a great city and I go there often. I just spent a couple of days there this past week actually to go see the Broadway show Rock of Ages. So I know a good bit about Charlotte. I’ll answer your questions by number in the order asked;
1. Rents in NC are almost always by the month with a lease of 6 to 12 months being the norm. I am a landlord of a home we rent in western NC and I know a lot about rentals in general in NC but not specifically to the Charlotte area. I usually advertise our rental on Craigslist when it becomes available and I would recommend looking there for a start to determine average rental costs in the Charlotte area. Here is a link to the NC Craigslist and you can look at Charlotte listings or other towns nearby from this page http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/us/nc I would also suggest searching for realtors there who handle apartment rentals too. Here’s a sample website of a realtor there http://www.brownandglenn.com/home/brownandglenn-home.php and here is the google search I did to find that site http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sclient=psy-ab&q=charlotte+nc+realtors+rental&pbx=1&oq=charlotte+nc+realtors&aq=2&aqi=g3g-j1&aql=&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=7562l10943l0l14013l17l11l0l1l1l1l183l1268l4.7l12l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=658a3e82f05adac0&biw=1366&bih=643
2. The price is going to vary widely based primarily on number of bedrooms and in Charlotte location is a big deal. So I’d need more specifics about your needs and where in Charlotte your wanting to live to help with general prices.
3. I think a good quality realtor from the above search would be able to give you the best advice about the better locations in Charlotte. They’ll need to know your needs etc as I said in number 2 and then they can give you the best guidance.
4. Ice skating is really out of my realm of knowledge but I did a google search that will connect you with all of the local venues in the Charlotte area http://www.google.com/#hl=en&cp=24&gs_id=2t&xhr=t&q=charlotte+nc+ice+skating&pf=p&sclient=psy-ab&pbx=1&oq=charlotte+nc+ice+skating&aq=0&aqi=g2g-j2&aql=&gs_sm=&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=658a3e82f05adac0&biw=1366&bih=643
5. I usually stay at the Holiday Inn Center City when visiting Charlotte. They generally have the best rates in the downtown area but if you’re willing to stay a little further out of downtown you can get a very nice room for less. That hotel in downtown is my favorite and is very convenient to most places in downtown. It will be a bit of a walk to the Nascar Hall of Fame but not too bad. A light rail station is very near the hotel and can take you part of the way too. Here is a link to the hotels website http://www.hicharlotte.com/ Here is a link to a google map search of uptown hotels http://maps.google.com/maps?q=charlotte+NC+uptown+hotels&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=8nUAT-CaBofAtgew0_zQBg&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=3&ved=0CFUQ_AUoAg On it the Hampton Inn is closest to the Hall of Fame. I’ve never stayed there but I’m sure it’s fine.
6. They have a new Ikea near Charlotte and it’s a great place to get furniture as well as Rooms to Go. There are lots of other furniture store there too I’m sure. If you don’t mind to drive out of town a bit the best place for furniture is in the Hickory area along highway 321 between Lenoir and Hickory as well as in those 2 towns.
Here are some links:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/store/charlotte
http://www.roomstogo.com/?
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=furniture+near+hickory+and+lenoir+NC&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=SHMAT4y8Gs-TtwfaldzQBg&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=3&ved=0CBsQ_AUoAg
7. I don’t know too much about public transportation there since I always drive into town and don’t have the need for it. From what I can tell it’s very good there. I see city buses all over the place and they have the light rail that can get you to a lot of places all over town. Here’s a link to their public transportation website where you can find all kinds of info http://charmeck.org/city/charlotte/cats/Pages/default.aspx As for fuel used here it’s virtually exclusively all gasoline. I’ve never seen any propane filling stations although I’m sure with some looking it’s probably available although very uncommon.
That’s a long answer to a lot of questions! Hope you find this helpful. You may want to look back through my answered questions as you may find I’ve answered other things about the area you’d find helpful. If I can be of more help please get in touch.

K. Anders Ericsson: Rest, repose are important for a balanced life

Sleep, work, repeat. That scheduleâsometimes minus the sleepâseems like the inevitable formula for success. Many students rise to the call of society, involving themselves in several organizations and a job on top of being a responsible student, so that restful sleep is a luxury and relaxation relegated to distant breaks in the school year.
The world beyond college is equally fast-paced, and sleep and vacations are just as infrequent. Students might as well get used to it, right? Not anymore.
Researchers are now starting to reveal that taking naps and getting full nights of sleep as well as taking time to relax by going for a walk or enjoying a hobby are all habits of the truly successful individuals.
Society might term these activities a mark of laziness, but Dr. K Anders Ericsson, an esteemed faculty member at Florida State, has extensively studied the daily regimens of successful people and found that taking time off to recharge is key.
âThe idea here is that if you really want to improve what youâre doing as opposed to just keep doing what youâre doing, then you really need that concentration and that focus that will actually allow you to stretch yourself a little bit further than youâre currently able to do it,â Ericsson said.
Ericsson arrived at this conclusion by studying expert musicians and others with performance-driven skills, and he and his colleagues found that these people typically practiced for uninterrupted sessions of 90 minutes and no more than four and a half hours per day.
He also found that practicing is the first thing they do in the morning, following a good nightâs sleep. Ideally, an alarm clock should be used as a reminder to go to bed; waking up at the right time should happen naturally after a full rest.
âIf you wake up and youâre really fresh, I think that is the time that people have found is the most effective time if you want to stretch yourself because throughout the day youâre being interrupted and youâre going to eventually get exhausted, and so the time when you actually can control how much concentration you can exert is probably in the morning,â Ericsson said.
This may seem a difficult task for students juggling multiple classes and other obligations, but there are ways around it.
âEven if you just set aside one hour to study the thing that you felt that you wanted to really master, thatâs one hour and over a year thatâs 300 hours,â Ericsson said.
This idea has a multitude of applications: students can use it to help themselves get ahead in school, or they can use it to zero in on one subject or skill or trade they especially want to craft.
To be successful in school, Ericsson believes that one of the most important methods is beginning each semester with a plan, knowing due dates ahead of time and being able to prepare far in advance. He advocates studying the material for each class a little bit each day and becoming familiar with it enough to be able to summarize it. He also recommends organizing notes and talking with teachers.
If things are still too busy, Ericsson suggests evaluating whatâs truly important and necessary.
âYou need to decide what is it thatâs most important to you, and then try to protect time for achieving that, and then if you see here that other things are going to infringe on your ability to make that commitment, then you have a choice to be made,â Ericsson said.
A lot of the trouble, Ericsson said, may come from having the wrong perspective.
âA lot of students, they spend four years finding out that there isnât anything that theyâre gifted at, and if you look back on it thatâs a wasted opportunity to become excellent at something thatâs their choice,â he said.
Rather than trying out multiple fields to find one where talent stands out, Ericsson believes in finding one where passion stands out, since his findings show that success has more to do with training and dedication than with talent.
FSU student Amanda Zubillaga agrees with these findings, and as a musician she sees them played out in her own life.
âIf you truly love what youâre working on, youâll never stop,â Zubillaga said. âYouâll always be thinking of the certain melody or motives that you fell in love with. I think you can be successful if you put in the extra effort, but youâll truly be successful if you love what you do, because it doesnât feel like youâre working.â

You don’t have to prove
Your manhood to me constantly
I know you’re the man can’t you see
I love you Righteously
Why you wanna dis me
After the way you been kissin’ me
After those pretty things you say
And the love we made today
When you run your hand
All up and run it back down my leg
Get excited and bite my neck
Get me all worked up like that
Think this through
I laid it down for you everytime
Respect me I give you what’s mine
You’re entirely way too fine
Arms around my waist
You get a taste of how good this can be
Be the man you ought to tenderly
Stand up for me
Flirt with me don’t keep hurtin’ me
Don’t cause me pain
Be my lover don’t play no game
Just play me John Coltraine

The air is getting hotter
There’s a rumbling in the skies
I’ve been wading through the high muddy water
With the heat rising in my eyes
Every day your memory grows dimmer
It doesn’t haunt me like it did before
I’ve been walking through the middle of nowhere
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door
When I was in Missouri
They would not let me be
I had to leave there in a hurry
I only saw what they let me see
You broke a heart that loved you
Now you can seal up the book and not write anymore
I’ve been walking that lonesome valley
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door
People on the platforms
Waiting for the trains
I can hear their hearts a-beatin’
Like pendulums swinging on chains
I tried to give you everything
That your heart was longing for
I’m just going down the road feeling bad
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door
I’m going down the river
Down to New Orleans
They tell me everything is gonna be all right
But I don’t know what "all right" even means
I was riding in a buggy with Miss Mary-Jane
Miss Mary-Jane got a house in Baltimore
I been all around the world, boys
Now I’m trying to get to heaven before they close the door
Gonna sleep down in the parlor
And relive my dreams
I’ll close my eyes and I wonder
If everything is as hollow as it seems
Some trains don’t pull no gamblers
No midnight ramblers like they did before
I been to Sugar Town, I shook the sugar down
Now I’m trying to get to heaven before they close the door

The Seminoles saw their way through the hardest part of their schedule, and now there are four more games to deal with before any national title can even be considered.
What FSU has fallen victim to in past years is having their high expectations shattered by a lesser opponent in a trap game, and standing in front of them now is a road trip to Winston-Salem, NC to play Wake Forest (4-5, 2-4 ACC), something that may be considered the last game that can be a trap on their schedule.
To put it bluntly, Wake hasnât been very good this year. They have four wins, two of them in the ACC but aside from giving then-No. 7 Miami a hard time they havenât accomplished much. Wakeâs wins are over Presbyterian (3-5 in the FCS), Army (3-6), NC State (3-5) and Maryland (5-3). The win over Maryland stands out because UM was a decent team, and because senior quarterback Tanner Price had one of each kind of touchdown: rushing, receiving and passing.
âThey were running all kind of option things early and now they went back to throwing the football, but Tanner Price seems like heâs been there forever and making great decisions,â Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher said of Wake Forestâs offense.
âItâs a shame their receiver, Michael Campanaro, got hurt. I think he had 67 catches on the year, heâs a heck of a player for them. They were throwing it around, it seemed like they ran a lot of option and they can go back and do some of those things and probably look at some of those things and weâve got to prepare for both groups. It will be tough. Theyâve got a good group.â
Wakeâs coming off a second consecutive loss, a shutout pitched by 4-4 ACC opponent Syracuse, whoâs 55th in the FBS with an average of 25.4 points allowed per game. Miami may have gotten Wakeâs hopes up when the Demon Deacons had a four-point lead with four minutes to play in the fourth quarter, only to watch Duke Johnson slam one home with 53 seconds on the clock.
Wake Forest has been a bit of a one trick pony this year. Wakeâs leading receiver, senior Michael Campanaro (whoâs out four to six weeks with a broken collarbone), has more yards (803) than the 11 Demon Deacon players to record rushing yards combined (792). The funny thing about that stat is that itâs not like Campanaro is breaking NCAA records, Wakeâs rushing game has just been that poor. Campanaro, who holds Wakeâs reception record with 229, has a third of the entire teamâs receptions (67/184) and the next closest receiver is freshman Jonathan Williams, whoâs caught 15 balls for 212 yards. If the Demon Deacons have intentions of keeping the game competitive, theyâll have to find another receiving threat.
A bright spot for Wake has been their quarterback, Price, whoâs forming another pretty decent year for himself despite the teamâs record. Price has 15 touchdowns this season and is 50 yards away from eclipsing 2,000 passing yards for the third time in his career. Forming a functional passing game will be hard if you subtract Campanaro from the equation, only making Priceâs job that much harder.
âThe next most critical game we have is the next one against Wake Forest,â said Fisher. âWake goes a great job, Jim [Grobe] has a great program. [Itâs] a very tough place to play. They play very well. We need to go in there, have a great week of preparation and put this [Miami win] behind us and move on.â
No. 2 Florida State takes on Wake Forest at noon on Saturday in Winston-Salem, NC in FSUâs final road trip before their meeting with rival UF at the end of the year. The game will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN3.

Instead of a usual spring break vacation as most college students might do, Adam Field along with five other FSU Medical School students will be hitting the rural villages in the country of Panama.
The med students will be giving over the counter drugs, like multivitamins for adults and children. As well as conducting physical exams to the village folks.
"There’s some vitamin deficiency there in a lot the children and the parents what vitamins for their children so we try to make those accessible. Also prenatal vitamins for women who are pregnant," said Field.
Other medicines include Ibuprofen, antacids and personal hygiene items. The group will go to four different low income areas of the country. For one of the aspiring doctors this will be his first time on the trip.
"From what I hear in previous years you get to interact with this group of amazing people and you get to learn a lot more than what we’re actually giving them. I’m really looking forward to that seeing what they have to teach us," said Carlos Rubiano, 1ST Year FSU Medical School Student.
FSU College of Medicine said their mission is to serve the state of Florida, but also help on an international platform. This will be the 11TH year the college will send students to Panama.

I live in Charlotte and while Ranger answered most of your as best as he can given the wide open nature of your questions, I can give some insite on #4 and #7. Your questions about where to live can only be answered if we know what part of Charlotte you will be working in and your wants/needs
The only year round ice rink is the Pineville Icehouse in the southern part of Charlotte. There is a seasonal outdoor ice rink that is set up on the grounds of the NASCAR HoF that will run until late February but is more for the casual skaters – you will definitely not want to do anything intricate there with novices all over.
The CATS bus system and LYNX light rail system are quite good but can get very crowded during peak hours. While it is not necessary to have a car, you will be very limited in where you will be able to go (easily and timely). Cars only run on gasoline or diesel here.
