Where Can I Work From Home

Question by bliss: What is home-confinement?
What if you don’t have a home?

Best answer:

Answer by B Triple D
Home confinement is where they place an electronic bracelet or anklet on you and it confines you to your home and a small area (your yard) outside. If you go any further than the devise allows the police are automatically notified and you will be in violation of your court order or parole. If you have no home then the judge will probably send you to a halfway house for the duration of your sentance and that will serve as your “Home Confinement”.

Note Fisgard Lighthouse in the lower left of this composition. This was taken from a Single Otter operated by Harbour Air. I caught this plane home to Vancouver Island on Saturday and, as you can see, it was very windy.

The Fisgard Lighthouse is an historical structure at the southern tip of Vancouver Island in the city of Greater Victoria. I work several days a week in Vancouver, but Victoria is where my wife, daughter and I have our family home.

Come visit, world!

In the meantime, it’s back to the Olympic city tomorrow morning.

Can’t wait to jump back in the fray.

Clark Howard Work From Home

Question by MRS. LADY20: Work at home jobs that are legitimate and true to their word.?
Are there any legitimate work at home jobs as far as answering the phone, doing surveys, anything that is part-time. I want to make a little extra cash and save up.

Answer by Melinda
Go to Clark Howard’s website (link to work at home info below). He lists several businesses he has vetted that are not rip-offs in the work at home scheme.

Some require a small fee (usually $ 35 to $ 50) for background check etc. when you apply to work with them.

Otherwise there is no money that you have to give them upfront (as most scams operate).

Mary Pinchot Meyer

Source: Wikipedia…

Mary Pinchot Meyer (October 14 1920, – October 12, 1964), was a Washington DC socialite, painter, former wife of CIA official Cord Meyer and close friend of US president John F. Kennedy who was noted for her great beauty and social skills.

Meyer’s murder two days before her 44th birthday in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington D.C. during the fall of 1964 would later stir speculation relating to Kennedy’s presidency and assassination. Nina Burleigh in her 1998 biography wrote, "Mary Meyer was an enigmatic woman in life, and in death her real personality lurks just out of view."

Mary Pinchot was the daughter of Amos Pinchot, a wealthy lawyer and a founder of the Progressive party who had helped fund the socialist magazine "The Masses". Her mother was Pinchot’s second wife Ruth, a journalist who worked for magazines such as "The Nation" and "The New Republic". Mary was raised at the family’s Grey Towers home in Milford, Pennsylvania where as a child she met left-wing intellectuals such as Mabel Dodge, Louis Brandeis, Robert M. La Follette, Sr. and Harold L. Ickes. Mary attended Brearley School and Vassar College, where she became interested in communism. She dated William Attwood in 1938 and while with him at a dance held at Choate Rosemary Hall she first met John F. Kennedy.

She left Vassar and became a journalist, writing for the United Press and Mademoiselle. As a pacifist and member of the American Labor Party she came under scrutiny by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Marriage with Cord Meyer
Mary met Cord Meyer in 1944 when he was a US Marine Corps lieutenant who had lost his left eye because of shrapnel injuries received in combat. The two had similar pacifist views and beliefs in world government and married on 19 April 1945. That spring they both attended the UN Conference on International Organization in San Francisco, during which the United Nations was founded, Cord as an aide of Harold Stassen and Mary as a reporter for a newspaper syndication service. She later worked for a time as an editor for Atlantic Monthly. Their eldest child Quentin was born in late 1945, followed by Michael in 1947, after which Mary became a housewife although she attended classes at the Art Students League of New York.

Cord Meyer became president of the United World Federalists in May 1947 and its membership doubled. Albert Einstein was an enthusiastic supporter and fundraiser. Mary Meyer wrote for the organization’s journal. In 1950 their third child Mark was born and they moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Meanwhile her husband began to re-evaluate his notions of world government as members of the American Communist Party infiltrated the international organizations he had founded. It is unknown when he first began secretly working with the Central Intelligence Agency but in 1951 Allen Dulles approached Cord Meyer, he became an employee of the CIA and was soon a "principal operative" of Operation Mockingbird, a covert operation meant to sway the print and broadcast media. Mary may also have done some work for the CIA during this time but her tendency towards spur-of-the-moment love affairs reportedly made the agency wary of her.

With her husband’s CIA appointment they moved to Washington D.C. and became highly visible members of Georgetown society. Their friends and acquaintances included Joseph Alsop, Katharine Graham, Clark Clifford and Washington Post reporter James Truitt along with his wife, noted artist Anne Truitt. Their social circle also included CIA-affiliated people such as Richard M. Bissell, Jr., high ranking counter-intelligence official James Angleton and Mary and Frank Wisner, Meyer’s boss at CIA. In 1953 Senator Joseph McCarthy publicly accused Cord Meyer of being a communist and the FBI was reported to have looked into Mary’s political past. Allen Dulles and Frank Wisner aggressively defended Meyer and he remained with the CIA. However, by early 1954 Mary’s husband became unhappy with his CIA career and used contacts from his covert operations in Operation Mockingbird to approach several New York publishers for a job but was rebuffed. During the summer of 1954 John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie Kennedy bought a house not far from where the Meyers lived, Mary and Jackie became friends and "they went on walks together." By the end of 1954 Cord Meyer was still with the CIA and often in Europe, running Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty and managing millions of dollars of US government funds worldwide to support progressive-seeming foundations and organizations.

One of Mary’s close friends and classmates from Vassar was Cicely d’Autremont, who married James Angleton. In 1955 Meyer’s sister Antoinette (Tony) married Ben Bradlee of The Washington Post. On 18 December 1956 the Meyers’ middle son Michael was hit by a car near their house and killed at the age of nine. Although this tragedy brought Mary and Cord closer together for a time, Mary filed for divorce in 1958. Her divorce petition alleged "extreme cruelty, mental in nature, which seriously injured her health, destroyed her happiness, rendered further cohabitation unendurable and compelled the parties to separate."

Friendship with JFK
Mary and her two surviving sons remained in the family home. She began painting again in a converted garage studio at the home of her sister Tony and her husband Ben Bradlee. She also started a close relationship with abstract-minimalist painter Kenneth Noland and grew a friendship with Robert Kennedy who had moved into his brother’s house after John and Jackie Kennedy left in 1960. Nina Burleigh in her book "A Very Private Woman" writes that after the divorce Meyer became "a well-bred ingenue out looking for fun and getting in trouble along the way." "Mary was bad," a friend recalled.

Burleigh claims James Angleton tapped Mary Meyer’s telephone after she left her husband. Meanwhile Angleton often visited the family home and took her sons on fishing outings. Mary visited John F. Kennedy at the White House in October 1961 and their relationship became intimate. Mary told Ann and James Truitt she was keeping a diary.

In 1983 former Harvard University psychology professor Timothy Leary claimed that in the spring of 1962 Meyer, who according to her biographer Burleigh "wore manners and charm like a second skin", told him she was taking part in a plan to avert worldwide nuclear war by convincing powerful male members of the Washington establishment to take mind-altering drugs, which would presumably lead them to conclude the Cold War was meaningless. Meyer said she had shared in this plan with at least seven other Washington socialite friends who held similar political views and were trying to supply LSD to a small circle of high ranking government officials (however, Leary’s account is disputed by several writers, who point out that he wrote many other autobiographical books between 1962 and 1983 without ever mentioning her).

Mary Meyer and John F Kennedy reportedly had "about 30 trysts" and at least one author has claimed she brought marijuana or LSD to almost all of these meetings. In January 1963 Philip Graham disclosed the Kennedy-Meyer affair to a meeting of newspaper editors but his claim was not reported by the news media. Leary later claimed Mary influenced Kennedy’s "views on nuclear disarmament and rapprochement with Cuba." In an interview with Nina Burleigh, Kennedy aide Meyer Feldman said, "I think he might have thought more of her than some of the other women and discussed things that were on his mind, not just social gossip." Burleigh wrote, "Mary might actually have been a force for peace during some of the most frightening years of the cold war…"

In his biography Flashbacks Leary claimed he had a call from Mary soon after the Kennedy assassination during which she sobbed and said, "They couldn’t control him any more. He was changing too fast. He was learning too much… They’ll cover everything up. I gotta come see you. I’m scared. I’m afraid." During the summer of 1964 Meyer reportedly told friends she thought someone had gotten into her house while she was not there and later told a friend from Vasser, historian Elizabeth Eisenstein, "she thought she had seen somebody leaving as she walked in.&quot

Murder
On 12 October 1964, eleven months after John F. Kennedy’s assassination and two weeks after the Warren Commission report was made public, Mary finished a painting and went for a walk along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath in Georgetown. Mechanic Henry Wiggins was trying to fix a car on Canal Road and heard a woman cry out, "Someone help me, someone help me." Wiggins heard two gunshots and ran to a low wall looking upon the path where he saw "a black man in a light jacket, dark slacks, and a dark cap standing over the body of a white woman."

Meyer’s body had two bullet wounds, one at the back of the head and another in her heart. An FBI forensics expert later said “dark haloes on the skin around both entry wounds suggested they had been fired at close-range, possibly point-blank”.

Minutes later a disheveled, soaking wet African-American man named Raymond Crump was arrested near the murder scene. No gun was ever found and Crump was never linked to any gun of the type used to murder Mary Meyer. Newspaper reports described her former husband only as either an author or government official and did not mention Kennedy, although many journalists apparently were aware of Meyer’s past marriage to a high ranking CIA official and her friendship with Kennedy.

When Crump came to trial, judge Howard Corcoran ruled Mary Meyer’s private life could not be disclosed in the courtroom. Corcoran had recently been appointed by president Lyndon Baines Johnson. Mary’s background was also kept from Dovey Roundtree, Crump’s lawyer, who later recalled she could find out almost nothing about the murder victim: "It was as if she existed only on the towpath on the day she was murdered." Crump was acquitted of all charges on 29 July 1965 and the murder remains unsolved (Crump went on to what has been described as a "horrific" life of crime).

Diary
In March 1976 James Truitt told the National Enquirer Meyer was having an affair with Kennedy when he was assassinated. Truitt said Meyer had told his wife Ann she was keeping a diary (which some sources have described as a sketchbook with some written text) and had asked her to retrieve it "if anything ever happened" to her. Ann Truitt, who was living in Tokyo when Meyer was murdered, called both James Angleton and Mary’s brother in law Ben Bradlee at home and asked him if he had found the diary. Bradley later said, "We didn’t start looking until the next morning, when Tony [Mary’s sister] and I walked around the corner a few blocks to Mary’s house. It was locked, as we had expected, but when we got inside, we found Jim Angleton, and to our complete surprise he told us he, too, was looking for Mary’s diary."

Angleton said he knew about Mary’s intimate friendship with Kennedy and was looking for the diary and anything else which might have information about the affair. Later at Mary’s art studio by the Bradlee home Ben and Antoinette again found Angleton, trying to pick a padlock. After he left, Antoinette found the diary and many letters in a metal box. These were given to Angleton, who later claimed he burned the diary, in which he said Mary Meyer wrote she and Kennedy had taken LSD before "they made love." However, Bradlee wrote they later learned Angleton had not burned the diary: Bradlee’s wife Tony got it back from Angleton and burned the document herself while Ann Truitt watched. Those who did read the diary reportedly said it confirmed Meyer’s intimate friendship with Kennedy but gave no suggestion it contained any information about his assassination.

Cord Meyer’s later statements about the murder
Cord Meyer left the CIA in 1977. In his autobiography Facing Reality: From World Federalism to the CIA he wrote, "I was satisfied by the conclusions of the police investigation that Mary had been the victim of a sexually motivated assault by a single individual and that she had been killed in her struggle to escape." However his former personal assistant Carol Delaney later claimed, "Mr. Meyer didn’t for a minute think that Ray Crump had murdered his wife or that it had been an attempted rape. But, being an Agency man, he couldn’t very well accuse the CIA of the crime, although the murder had all the markings of an in-house rubout."

In February 2001 writer C. David Heymann asked Cord Meyer about Mary Pinchot Meyer’s murder and he replied, "My father died of a heart attack the same year Mary was killed. It was a bad time." When asked who had murdered Mary Pinchot Meyer the retired CIA official, six weeks before his own death from lymphoma, reportedly "hissed" back, "The same sons of bitches that killed John F. Kennedy."

Is it okay to ask which pronouns someone would like to be called by? Yes. Henry says he’d much rather be asked which pronouns he’d like to be called by than to be mis-gendered. If there’s any ambiguity, don’t be afraid to ask respectfully.

Frequenting public restrooms is about as mundane a task as any. All people go through the motions: finding a stall, counting the scum-ridden floor tiles as they do their business and washing their hands with watery soap as they stare absent-mindedly into a vaguely opaque mirror before they carry on with their lives.

Add verbal assaults, possibilities of physical harassment and an overwhelming identity dissonance to that bathroom visit, and you’ve got the familiarly dreadful routine of a transgender individual.

“Speaking from personal experience, just going to the bathroom in public is incredibly stressful,” FSU student Riley Navarrete said. “I’m female-bodied so whenever I need to use the bathroom, I feel like I have to use the women’s one. It just makes me feel so uncomfortable. People look at me twice for going into a women’s bathroom, and it makes me feel really terrible. For me, I can’t even enter a bathroom without being looked at strangely.”

Navarrete is gender neutral, meaning they do not identify with any concrete gender binary. Under a trans umbrella, there is an entire population of individuals who do not identify with the gender that was assigned to them at birth. Navarrete is one of them.

“I don’t relate strongly with either gender binary of male or female, and it really does suck sometimes. It’s hard to get people to call me by my preferred pronouns, which are gender neutral,” Navarrete said. “It sucks. I like wearing dresses sometimes, but just because I wear them it doesn’t mean you can assume I’m a female, but people still do.”

Navarrete prefers when people refer to them using the gender-neutral pronouns “they” or “them” instead of “he” or “she.” While Navarrete maintains no specific gender, other transgender individuals also may identify with a gender different than what they were assigned at birth.

For Navarrete and all others who don’t identify with their assigned gender, gender-neutral bathrooms are bathrooms available to people of all gender identities, not just specific to the gender identity one was assigned at birth based on their genitalia. The purpose is to create a sense of security for gender-queer, transgender, or gender-neutral individuals, who may feel out of place, harassed or unwelcome in exclusively male or female restrooms.

“It’s a horrible whirlwind of guilt and angst,” Navarrete said. “Going to the bathroom is a human need. It shouldn’t be something that you’re dreading to do.”

Bread and Roses, a volunteer-operated co-op, provides this sense of safety to these individuals by having gender-neutral bathrooms in their store.

"We strive to create a welcoming environment where people, regardless of their gender identity, won’t feel intimidated, discouraged or unsafe here,” Bread and Roses volunteer Kirsten Harvey said. “We have an environment here free of hateful language, transphobia, homophobia, racism, sexism, ableism, and everything else. In order to achieve that, we create an atmosphere of inclusivity that reflects gender diversity and encourages acceptance.”

While Bread and Roses and Sweat Pea Café are just a few places around Tallahassee that provide gender neutral bathrooms, the FSU PRIDE Executive Director Victoria Gentry said she is trying to implement some on FSU’s campus by the end of this school year.

“A lot of transgender people come to Florida State from their hometowns where they’ve been put down their entire lives. They were never accepted, and might have even been beat up just for trying to be who they are,” Gentry said. “If we can just get these bathrooms and keep going in the direction of inclusivity, we can make FSU a home away from the hostile home they’ve come from. We can allow them to simply be themselves, because a lot of people just have never been able to do that.”

Gentry plans to start by implementing gender neutral restrooms in the Union, and she hopes to eventually make them available campus-wide. The plan will cost virtually no money since they are not looking to build new restrooms, but merely repurpose existing ones with new, gender-neutral signs.

“All the marriage equality debates going on has put us right in the spotlight,” Gentry said. “People are aware of our issues, but our issues aren’t only marriage equality, and people are starting to recognize that. Now is the time to strike for things to change.”

Other campuses across the nation have progressed to include gender-neutral bathrooms as well, including New York University, Ohio University, and University of Colorado. The website safe2pee.org is also used to inform trans people of specific locations with gender-neutral bathrooms in their area.

“It’s important to create a safe environment for transgender individuals because we live in this culture that can be so hateful. Our culture is so vehemently violent towards transgender people, not just physically, but in our attitudes,” Jessica Schwartz said.
Schwartz identifies as cis-gendered, meaning she identifies with the gender identity assigned to her at birth; however, Schwartz said she does not agree with many of the stereotypes or norms she is expected to conform to as a woman.

“Even in mainstream culture, it seems like transphobia is a popular theme,” Schwartz said. “Comedic films often make fun of transgender people, especially those who are sex workers. People just try to laugh it off as they’re just men who dress like women, or vise versa, but there’s so much more to it than that. They are used as a joke, a punching bag, something to laugh at. It’s a one-dimensional portrayal rarely told through the eyes of actual transgender individuals.”

The feeling of vulnerability in a public restroom and fear of harassment is not unfounded. The National Transgender Discrimination Survey, which researched gender non-conforming people of minority races, revealed that 65 percent of gender non-conforming individuals of a minority race experienced harassment, while 39 percent experienced physical assault. 56 percent of them have attempted suicide as a contributing result of harassment.

“It’s providing a space for people to just freaking go to the bathroom,” Navarrete said. “It’s being able to pee without having to stress out about people staring at you weird, or feeling like you’re betraying your own gender identity by going into a bathroom you can’t identify with. “

To increase gender inclusivity, Navarrete encourages asking transgender individuals what pronouns they prefer to be referred to as, while Schwartz suggests that deconstructing gender norms and questioning these attitudes is conducive to acceptance.

“It’s comfort. It’s acceptance. It’s feeling like you belong,” Gentry said.

For 10 years, Gainesville indie-rock outfit Holopaw has been putting out music. First through the perennial indie label Sub Pop, and more recently via Misra Records.

The band dropped Academy Songs, Volume I earlier this year, which is an oddity in the era of the single track. It follows a loose story line that comes together as the albums plays on. Though, frontman John Orth admits to us that characters are often interchangeable and the ideas can be somewhat vague.

Orth and his bandmates will be performing Saturday at Gramps, their first trip to Miami in a few years. (The last time they were in the Magic City, the band was touring with then-labelmate Iron & Wine.)

We talked to Orth over the phone about Gainesville’s music scene, how being gay influences his music, and the ideas behind Holopaw’s new album.

New Times: How is Gainesville’s music scene these days?
John Orth: It’s good. Unfortunately, we don’t have a weekly or monthly paper. We’ve also never had college radio. Those are two coalescing forces I think our music scene is missing out on. That being said, there are always new things happening, and the scene that we do have is very supportive and vibrant. But, again, there isn’t a place that brings together the scene. There is a new group of kids, the Church of Holy Colors, that’s sort of the new generation of artists and musicians that are doing really exciting things in Gainesville right now.

As a gay man, how much does your sexual orientation influence your work?
It’s who I am and what I write about. It used to be that used to write a lot more metaphorically, because, it wasn’t so much that I wasn’t comfortable being gay…

Did you want to appeal to to a broader group of people?
It wasn’t so much that. My lyrics have always been pretty obtuse. I just became more and more comfortable within my personal life and what I was interested in artistically. It is the stories that I tell, much the way straight people do, it’s about relationships, love and sex. Anything R. Kelly would sing about, it just happens to be my point of view, which is a gay point of view.

Do you think gay artists’ visibility these days is important, especially with what’s happening in places like Russia?
Of course. To see your voice represented in the media or music, for people to be openly and proudly tell their stories, I do think it’s important.

You released a new album this year, Academy Songs, Volume I. What’s the idea behind it?
In the past, the way I’ve written songs, I’ve had notebooks with scraps and sketches of ideas. Some of those ideas were drawn directly my life, some of them were other stories I wanted to tell. More than anything, by framing all of these songs in one location with these characters was more of a songwriting device for me. I decide very vaguely what the story I wanted to tell, what the location would be, I decide what the characters would be like. Each of those stories I had a different notebook for, and I tried to flesh them out as best I could. In the end, I ended up with enough of those potential songs for at least two records. That’s what the Volume I implies.

You directed a video for the band recently. Is that something you enjoyed doing?
My ex-boyfriend is a video artist, and for years I collaborated with him on videos. This is the first video that I directed myself. It something I’m very interested in as a visual person. I’m working on a video right now with my friend Adam Baran, who is a filmmaker in New York, and a few weeks from from now we’ll shoot a music video for our song "Dirty Boots (He Don’t)." He’s going to direct it and I’m going to do some of the art direction and styling for it. It’s something I’d like to do more of.

Respect is essential for gender identity

I’d like to preface this, and all other subsequent articles on the issue, by stating my perspective. I was born a little Hispanic girl in Tampa. It didn’t take me long after becoming a cognitively aware person to realize that I was a lesbian.

While I can relate to the trouble associated with deviating from heteronormativity, I will never be able to personally attest to the challenges faced by transgendered individuals. That being said, my best friend is a female-to-male transgendered individual–whom I’ll refer to as Henry. It’s with his blessing and concern that I would like to discuss what all of this actually means.

Unless you’re a member, or an active ally, of the LGBT community, it’s not uncommon to be confused about what it means to be transgendered. Transgendered individuals find their voices stifled by decades of misinformation, mislabeling of the community and a lack of legitimate representation in television and media. This results in relying on stereotypes to answer any questions that we may be afraid to ask. I’ll start with the easiest one: What does it mean to be “transgendered?”

Transgender means an individual whose gender does not align with the one assigned to them at birth. A “transman” is a man who was assigned a female gender at birth, and a “transwoman” is a woman who was assigned a male gender at birth. You’ll also see acronyms, such as FTM or MTF, to describe the individual.

Pronouns are important. If you can think back to grade school and recall the weeks spent on nouns, proper nouns and pronouns, you understand why it’s so important to use them properly. So, which pronouns do you use, and when? Recently, there’s been a case presented for using the “ze” pronoun, which is inclusive of all genders.

Even my most radically progressive friends don’t have this implemented in their daily speech, so that’s up to you. As for the average person, on an average day, here is my best advice: Call people by the pronouns they ask you to call them by. All the time. Always. End of discussion. Meaning, if someone you know has come out to you as a transman, call them by male pronouns. The same holds true for transwomen and female pronouns. It may be difficult to retrain your thoughts, especially if the individual is one that you’ve known for a while, but it’s crucial. Imagine how difficult it is for the person in question and the respect for them should follow quickly after.

The lines may seem blurred when dealing with a “masculine,” cis-gendered woman, or a “feminine” cis-gendered man. You may find yourself confused about which pronoun to use. How can you, the average person, go about your interaction as respectfully as possible? It’s simple: Ask for their name. Transgendered individuals rarely keep their birth-given names, and adopt a name more suited for their identity.

Unless the name is gender-neutral—like Taylor, Alex, Casey etc.– their name should point you in the right direction. When all else fails, do the least amount of harm possible and use gender neutral pronouns.

Is it okay to ask which pronouns someone would like to be called by? Yes. Henry says he’d much rather be asked which pronouns he’d like to be called by than to be mis-gendered. If there’s any ambiguity, don’t be afraid to ask respectfully.

The most important thing is to have an awareness that we aren’t all the same. If you haven’t already, adopt a respect for anyone who deviates from classically perceived male or female traits and characteristics. We’re just recently ready to discuss these things as a society, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t been lying dormant since human beings became self-aware. As difficult as it is for a person who isn’t a member of the transgender community to do, try to understand the courage that it takes to be true to one’s self—especially when the self doesn’t match the anatomy assigned at birth.

This summer ran me ragged. Had a full time job doing computery stuff for a satellite instrument, and then had another project that I decided to keep working on from the school year. It was supposed to be part time, but, like in the week this was taken where it took about 85 hours, things are never as they are supposed to be.

The project is called "DayStar", and its really pretty interesting, as long as you are a super nerd like me. Basically, we built an instrument for a high altitude balloon (same height as the famous Red Bull jump). It is supposed to take and analyze pictures, in a sciency way

This was taken on our way back home from Pallestine, TX (yep its a place), where we had to put our instrument in a thermal vaccuum chamber and test it out. Both the drive there and back were started at around 11:00 PM, and we had to drive through the night. At this point, it was about 4 hours of sleep per night for about 8 days.

At this point, my truck ran out of gas, in the middle of ‘holy crap we are so far from anyone’-nowhere. Only gas stations for a hundred miles was closed and the credit card machine didn’t work. So what better opportunity to run around a desolate highway and practice my light painting! Tired as hell, broken down with almost no cell service, and with only energy drinks for nourishment, and this was probably the highlight of my trip. That and the nametag I ‘forgot to return’ that says "NASA Scientist". Hell yeah

Legitimate Jobs At Home – Where can I find legitimate jobs to work from home?

Reputable Jobs At Property

I’d like a typical job, not a business to work from property, in information entry, editing, transcribing, calligraphy, and so forth.

You do not. If you want a true job you will have to in fact go to the area of employment and function there.

Quite handful of real businesses are going to hire a stranger to do perform for them with no instruction or supervision. Most individuals who work from home both function for themselves, or have worked for a organization for several years, and then had a personalized scenario arise that caused them to need to perform from house. If they had been trusted prolonged-term workers, and if their jobs could be done remotely, the firms made accommodations.

If you want to earn cash, you will have to get a true task. You cannot earn a residing answering surveys (which genuinely just acquire info on you!) on the Net. No firm is going to spend great funds for that when they can simply supply a survey link on their receipts and get Real Customers to inform them what they imagined of their services or products (for free of charge!).

Genuine companies are not going to pay out to ship materials to you, allow you fold them things them or handle them, and then pay out for you to ship them back to them. How would that potentially make economic sense?

When record executives started calling, Ilan Eckhardt determined he’d rather move to Israel than become a rock star in Los Angeles. “There’re so several individuals that end up pursuing a job, and it blows up and they run out of steam and motivation, because they weren’t mature ample,” the soft-spoken 19-yr-outdated Midwesterner explained. “I needed to make certain I was mature adequate and the ideal outlet was Israel. Nothing can make an individual more mature than a sense of function and which means.”

If you’ve been viewing Israel’s well-liked musical reality tv present “Rising Star” (“HaKochav Ha’Ba”), it’s clear why the music business is so interested in him. Eckhardt sings and plays many instruments, and with blonde hair and blue eyes doesn’t appear like he’d be out of place in an Abercrombie &amp Fitch catalog. Eckhardt effortlessly cruised to the semi-finals by crooning an up-tempo Jason Mraz ballad. What you almost certainly did not know was that Eckhardt, who produced aliyah final 12 months, honed his musical and singing chops whilst carrying out at dozens of NCSY Shabbatons and other events all through his teen many years.

“It was fantastic practice for what I’m carrying out now,” he said by cellphone from Israel. “It actually opened me up to currently being ready to involve the audience, which is a big part of doing. NCSY is all about the ruach [spirituality]… Men and women really do not recognize how potent music can be.”

For a child expanding up in Milwaukee, WI, the Orthodox Union’s global youth movement also served another vital role for Eckhardt, who attended his initial Shabbaton as a fifth grader.

“If it wasn’t for NCSY I wouldn’t have felt this kind of a robust want to come to Israel,” he explained. “ I really do not think I would have felt it as essential as it is to be involved with other Jewish people my age.”

Eckhardt, the son of an opera singer and a concert pianist, learned how to perform the piano from his grandmother, who lived with the loved ones.

“She was a live-in teacher, which was amazing,” he explained. Other instruments he picked up incorporated violin, guitar and saxophone. Considering that the nearby Jewish large school forbade listening to secular music, Eckhardt enrolled in Cooper Yeshiva Substantial School for Boys in Memphis.

“They gave me the freedom to express myself through my music, which is what I required,” he stated.

In Memphis he met Rabbi Marc Lennon, the head of Memphis NCSY, who introduced him to Jewish music. He also formed a close connection with Rabbi Micah Greenland, the director of Midwest NCSY who at the moment serves as the organization’s interim global director.

“Ilan was an exceptionally passionate and involved NCSYer in the Midwest region during his higher school many years,” Rabbi Greenland mentioned. “His talent and enthusiasm for music were evident early on, as he sang and played instruments informally at Shabbatons shortly following becoming active in NCSY. Later, he took the initiative in placing with each other a teen band in NCSY, foremost a team of other musicians in bringing extraordinary inspiration and power to hundreds of other teenagers in Midwest NCSY. Ilan fused his aptitude and flair for music with his really like for Torah and spirituality.”

Right after video clips of Eckhardt appeared on YouTube, record labels reached out to him. At initial, he didn’t believe the inquiries have been reputable. He learned that they have been but realized they most likely had him in thoughts for a pop music boy-band. (He wasn’t too off the mark: The headline of a recent profile of Eckhardt in the Haaretz newspaper declared, “If A single Path had an Orthodox Jewish Member, This is What He Would Look Like.” Do not be fooled by his great looks even though, Eckhardt is a significant musician whose tastes ranges from pop to classical and jazz. He names as his favourite musician the singer Jeff Buckley, who released just one album prior to his untimely death.

“He brought so significantly feeling into every single song and that is anything even the ideal musicians really don’t even do,” he explained. “He actually meant what he was playing and that’s uncommon.”

Soon after large college, Eckhardt opted to attend Yeshivat Orayta in the Previous City of Jerusalem. He invested the year engrossed in studying Torah, but produced time for music. Even though busking on Yafo Street he met his potential rivals, two other semi- finalists of “Rising Stars”: Aryeh and Gil Gat, two chasidic guitarists whose version of “Song of Silence” has gone viral.

By opportunity, one particular motza’ei Shabbat, Eckhardt ended up near the bar in which “Rising Stars” was performing a first-round of auditions. A number of months later he received the callback to seem on the display. Eckhardt’s overall performance aired last week.

Eckhardt was eradicated from the competition on Tuesday evening, but win or shed, he’d previously made programs to enlist in the Israel Defense Force subsequent yr. Wherever he ends up, he credits the Orthodox Union’s NCSY with helping him get there.

“You meet other Jewish youngsters your age, which for children in little towns is something you require,” he said about his NCSY expertise. “ When there are not other Jewish kids it is truly straightforward to get rid of your Jewish identity.”

What does adjust search like?

For Alfred Nobel, the starting of alter looked like an obituary in a French newspaper: his very own. Nobel, a Swedish arms-producer, invented dynamite. He never married, had no heirs, and however he was a cultured man, he devoted most of his time and work to devising ever much more sophisticated weaponry. In 1855, when Nobel was 55 years previous, one of his brothers passed away (one more brother had previously died in an explosion in a single of Nobel’s factories), and a newspaper erroneously printed an obituary not for his brother but for Alfred Nobel himself.

It did not make pretty reading. “The merchant of death” it referred to as him. Alfred Nobel became rich figuring out techniques to destroy much more individuals quicker than ever just before, the paper reported. Nobel was horrified.

It may well have appeared like a blunder at the time, but this obituary turned out to be a large gift for Nobel. In individuals initial horrible moments as he read through his legacy in black and white, Nobel should also have witnessed a extremely various obituary in his mind’s eye: he absolutely pictured what he wished his tribute said as an alternative. Desperate to make the epitaph of his imagination – the a single which would capture the way Nobel wished to be remembered – a actuality, he eventually established the Nobel Prize, the world’s most prestigious awards for peace, literature, chemistry, medication, and physics.

—– Picturing Change

In a single of the most pivotal moments in the complete Torah, Moses tells the Jewish men and women “Pay attention and hear, O Israel: this day you have a individuals to God your Lord” (Deut. 27:9).

Rabbi Ovadia Sforno, the fantastic Italian commentator on the Bible, wrote: “’Pay attention’ indicates ‘visualize this in your thoughts.’” Taking a second to image exactly where you are going is the 1st, most critical, stage to obtaining there. It assists make positive we will not waste time with distractions that will lure us away from our ambitions.

Scientists have just lately begun to review just how potent visualizing our ambitions can be. There is now a wealth of analysis to back up what Jewish thinkers have identified for generations: picturing exactly where we want to go is a powerful step to obtaining there.

In a single groundbreaking review, researchers in contrast individuals who exercised with people who did not. Unsurprisingly, the exercisers increased their strength and the non-exercisers did not. But a third group of folks – individuals who just visualized exercise – skilled a measurable surge in muscle tone also. For these topics, using their minds was a massive component of acquiring to exactly where they wanted to be (in this case, better muscle mass).

As Theodor Herzl famously said, “If you will it, it’s no dream.” We see it time and once again in Jewish background: when we get the time to visualize in which we want to be, to think about what it is we are living for and hope to attain, then the pleasure this generates aids carry us in direction of our ambitions.

For the lucky amongst us, that can be an “aha!” minute when we’re brought encounter to encounter with the actuality of our circumstance. There is a strong story in the Talmud about a wicked guy named Eliezer ben Durdia. 1 day somebody said to him, jokingly, that he was so awful there was no way he’d ever appreciate a portion in the following planet. Eliezer ben Durdia was appalled he recognized that deep down he truly wanted to be a great person. Confronted with the consequences of his choices and the huge regret that ensued, he produced the herculean selection to return from his wicked approaches and attained his portion in the World to Come. He even earned the title “Rabbi.”

At instances, a picture of our better selves can come from individuals who enjoy us. This is what occurred to Rabbi Akiva, one of the greatest Jewish sages who lived in Israel in the 1st Century CE. He was a bad, illiterate shepherd, but Rachel, the daughter of a wealthy and illustrious Jerusalem family, saw his wonderful likely.
She advised Akiva she would marry him if he began to examine, so at the age of forty, Rabbi Akiva began to discover Torah in earnest, sooner or later growing into the vision Rachel had shared with him: he was a realized and esteemed Torah scholar.

—– Obtaining our Route

The Hebrew word for repentance is teshuva, which indicates return. It displays the Jewish view that God created every single of us to fulfill our own unique ambitions, and even even though we might stray from them, we have the energy to go back to them, to return to the ultimate vision we have of ourselves.

Throughout the 10 Days of Teshuva which we are presently in, we are every challenged to pause and visualize our appropriate spot in the universe. Who do we want to be? What targets are we passionately committed to attaining this yr?

Visualization provides us the clarity and vision to see what obstacles are holding us back from our dreams. Reflecting on the massive image of what kind of man or woman we want to turn out to be also aids keep us energized in the direction of our aim.
.

To assist get you started, try to set aside a couple of quiet minutes and consider the following 5 concerns:

1… Envision for a moment that you are Alfred Nobel, studying a summary of your life. What would it say?

two… What is the ideal obituary you would like to go through about your life? (If you have the time, commit a number of minutes on this one. Feel about what you’d like your daily life to ideally search like and write it up as an obituary.)

three… What are you performing appropriate to get you to your targets?

4… What aspects are holding you back?

5… Strategize for a moment. Believe about 1 new stage you can consider to move you closer to your goal.
Whether or not it is enrolling in a class, joining a study group, or resolving not to flip on the Television right after dinner but have good quality time rather, what will start to move you in the direction of your targets?
.

Obtaining back on track can get an instant of resolve, but for most of us it is a extended process. Rabbi Akiva, the sage who enrolled in school at forty, spent a lot of years studying before he fulfilled his vision of himself. Even in the modern day age, it requires time to reach our ambitions.

As we function on realizing our vision for ourselves, there are a couple of sensible measures we can take. Surrounding ourselves with individuals who share similar values and objectives helps strengthen our resolve. Occasionally, enrolling in a class or joining a group gives us the assistance we require not to get distracted. Ultimately, opening a dialogue with God is another effective way to support connect us to the people we in the long run want to be.

Each and every 1 of us has greatness. Now is the time to envision it and commit to generating that dream come correct.
